SUMMER CAR MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST FOR ROAD TRIPS
Summer Car Maintenance Checklist for Road Trips
Road trip season has officially begun in Eastern Ontario, and we are as excited about it as you are! Before you start exploring all that our beautiful region has to offer, you will want to ensure that your vehicle is in road trip-worthy condition before you hit the road. While maintaining your vehicle is important throughout the year, there are a few things you will want to pay particular attention to before venturing off. We've put together a checklist to help you keep your car ready for your next adventure.
It is also a good idea to check the other filters and fluids, like the air filter, fuel filter, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant and top up or replace them as necessary, as each plays a vital role in keeping your vehicle running smoothly.
It is essential to know and understand the signs of tire wear so that you can replace your tires when the time comes. At least once a month, we recommend checking your tire pressure and visually inspecting your tires. If you notice uneven tire wear, it is a good idea to have your tires rotated and consider an alignment if you notice signs of unusual tire wear. An additional inspection for signs of damage, such as scrapes or nails, should be completed before going on a long drive.

Oil, Filters, and Fluids
The engine oil and filter in your vehicle should be changed at least twice a year, more if you're a higher mileage driver, but it is always a good idea to have the oil and filter changed before a road trip. Harmful debris, such as dirt and metal fragments, accumulate in your engine oil over time, which can cause additional wear on your engine and can ultimately cause a mechanical breakdown. It is also a good idea to check the other filters and fluids, like the air filter, fuel filter, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant and top up or replace them as necessary, as each plays a vital role in keeping your vehicle running smoothly.
Brakes, Tires, and Alignment
Worn brakes are not only dangerous, but they also cause additional wear on your rotors. It is important to have your brakes serviced at least twice a year or more, depending on your driving environment and mileage. It is essential to know and understand the signs of tire wear so that you can replace your tires when the time comes.
